So I was watching The Matrix again yesterday. And while watching it I had some questions and I figured some of you have a lot more knowledge about Matrix lore than I do so maybe you know the answers.
I figured the Oracle wanted to see some change. Did she had influence on making Trinity falling in love with Neo(by the power of suggestion or something) so that Neo would not make the choice other Ones did?
If Neo had chosen to go to the source would the Smith problem be solved because of that?
Speaking of the Smith problem...was it supposed to happen like that? Has every One have to deal with a program like Smith(balancing each other out and stuff)
If the Matrix needed to be reset after some time by the One...why were the Agents hunting the keymaker while it was necessary for the One to get to the source?
I am not searching for plotholes or stuff...so don't get me wrong.

Bright and early (Bout to head off. I MAY be on tomorrow, but if not, then I'll see you guys on the 26th!!). Here's my interpretation. So I was watching The Matrix again yesterday. And while watching it I had some questions and I figured some of you have a lot more knowledge about Matrix lore than I do so maybe you know the answers. I figured the Oracle wanted to see some change. Did she had influence on making Trinity falling in love with Neo(by the power of suggestion or something) so that Neo would not make the choice other Ones did?Based on the whole choice thing in the second and third movies, I imagine that the Oracle's answer would be that Trinity already made the choice, and in living through it, she would have to figure out why. Hence Trinity's whole uneasiness in admitting the truth (about what the oracle told her) to Neo. I don't think that the Oracle particularly sought to set up the whole love thing, but I do think that she may have had the whole "shake things up" plan in her mind for a while. Then, in the sixth iteration of the Matrix, she saw that love between the one and another would happen and used that to put her plan into action. If Neo had chosen to go to the source would the Smith problem be solved because of that?I don't think so, because Smith was an exiled program. The whole point about Neo sacrificing himself to Smith was that with Smith taking over Neo's RSI, he was finally connected to the source and could be deleted. The question I have is would the Smith situation have gotten as out of hand as it did if Neo returned to the source when he was supposed to, thereby destroying the "balance."Speaking of the Smith problem...was it supposed to happen like that? Has every One have to deal with a program like Smith(balancing each other out and stuff)No, because every previous One has returned to the source. Here comes that whole choice thing again. Neo had already made the choice to save Trinity long before he knew he was even faced with that choice. He simply had to understand why. Now, if you want to get a little Karmic on this, since Neo's decision was already made (to NOT return to the source and to stay in the Matrix) the scales of balance had to be tipped somehow... Hence, the Smith virus was already predetermined to happen. It gets a little hazy here, and I know I can describe this better if I'm not clear. If the Matrix needed to be reset after some time by the One...why were the Agents hunting the keymaker while it was necessary for the One to get to the source?I think that the whole Agents trying to stop the one is a machine system of control over itself. It helps the One awaken into his power. Without an enemy, Neo would never have discovered his power, because he never would have had to. So I feel like that was probably another trick that was up the Oracle's sleeve. Which is why I think Smith called her Mom before taking her over. Because it was on a more personal level. SHE gave him the purpose of killing Neo. Anyway, Agents want to stop Neo, killing the keymaker stops Neo indefinitely.I am not searching for plotholes or stuff...so don't get me wrong. I've watched the movies... a lot (can you tell?). I definitely am by no way saying that I am right, but I think that was the Wachowski's whole point anyway. They didn't want to make another flick that had everything spilled out for you. They wanted you to think. They wanted to leave some things up to personal interpretation (although there's no question in my mind that they do hold the "real answers"). So with that, I'm off.

Oh, and the fact that the Matrix did not actually "shut down" like the Architect said it would if Neo did not go to the source. Did Smith somehow reset that cycle or did he just lie to keep that 1% of the population under control?

If it had not been for smith then yes the matrix would have crashed. Neo had chosen not to pick 23 people to build a new zion. Without zion there is no choice for potential redpills who reject the matrix. Without the choice the matrix would have crashed just like the first and second matrices did. HOWEVER with smith threatening to destroy the machines Neo went to the machine city and made a deal with the machines. He would destroy smith, and they wouldn't destroy zion. Because zion was never destroyed potential redpills still had the choice of leaving the matrix, so the matrix didn't crash.
Also none of the programs throughout the entire movie ever lie. That doesn't necessarily mean they are always right, the Architect saying that the entire human race would be destroyed was him speaking out of ignorance. He had no way of knowing that Smith would get in the way like he did.

So it could quite possibly have nothing to do with Zion or Smith but with Neo himself? I mean, if you think about it, the Machines could rebuild Zion themselves and pull out some 23 human specimens to do so, like they had to have done with the first v3.0 of the Matrix. But obviously the Machines had to have known that the Matrix was -not- going to just shut down otherwise they would not have given a flippidy-do about Smith because everything was about to shut down and die anyway. But Neo had to have a connection with the Machines, what with being able to see them with his eyes being burnt out and all. So in theory, the Machines might have been after something in Neo's code to stabilize the equation of the Matrix. He, after all, was the variable that the Architect could not figure out but was necessary in the stability of the Matrix, right? So, since he did not return to the source, and so didn't return that code to the Matrix equation, it could have caused another flaw in the Matrix, maybe not destroying it completely but perhaps resulting in the loss of "entire crops" as Smith puts it. And so, by accepting Neo's offer, the Machines got Neo's code and Smith out of the Matrix? <ponder> [Only to turn around and be aggravated at New Zion and start destroying everyone again?] NOTE: Not sure if any of that makes any sense... kinda just ran with my thoughts and typed them out

Neo is made up of the code from all the bluepills that reject the system. The fact that the machines created him means that they would have had all of his code in the first place, so i don't see how they would need his code to stabalize the system. I may be mistaken, but I don't think the machines tried to stop smith at all during the movies. It wasn't until the very end when Neo went to the city and talked to Dues Ex Machina.
I suppose the machines could make zion themselves, but they'd have to set everything up perfectly so that the humans would know how to make hovercrafts and hack the matrix. I think they would have found it more "efficient" to have the one lead the new awakend humans and have him teach them how to do everything.
As for his ability to see, it is theorized that Neo's headplug was able to wirelessly connect to the source. Therefore anything connected to the source would be picked up by his headplug which is why he was able to "see/feel" them. This would also contribute to his ability to stop the squiddies in the real. His headplug probably sent a signal to the sentinals and disabled them. This would make sense due to the fact that the machines would need a way to guarentee the one would survive outside of the matrix. This raises the question "why couldn't neo sense the machines in the first movie?" The theory is that the candy neo got from the oracle during their conversation in debir court activated neo's headplug.

I think the whole point of Neo going to see Deus was that the machines couldn't stop Smith in the end. I think Archie had planned for a lot of things with the eventuality of the One, but Smith totally screwed the pooch by staying in the Matrix.

The whole copy+pasting himself on every file in the matrix is what did it. Everything would have been fine if the Machines had incorporated a good backup and recovery schema. You can lead a toaster to water but...
