I hate when games make Euro servers. WoW does it too. Why they want to seperate us? I wanna play with my limey friends too!

We can't even pick the Euro servers, which really sucks for anyone working 3rd shift. I think it has something to do with the fact that they released slightly different clients for other countries, because they wanted to sell nipples to Americans. So why didn't you pick a PvP(RP) server, Fennykins?

I'm honestly waiting for a RP-PvE server. I can't believe they don't have one, yet they have RP-PvP servers. That's mind boggling.
I didn't pick them because RP-PvP servers are PvP servers where PvPers can harrass and grief RPers. If I want that, I'll play on Recursion and RP in Mara C.

I don't know if it's the same deal with AoC as it was with SWG, but the purpose of seperate servers was that they had modified downtimes for the American and European servers. Euro servers would go down somewhere between 9 PM and midnight Eastern for a few hours maybe, while the US servers went down between 2 AM and 5 AM for a few hours (with time conversions, these are the same times).
So pretty much if you wanted to game stateside between 2 and 5, and your main character was on a US server, you were screwed. Nice thing about SWG was that the US version was the same as the EU one, and you could be in the US playing on a Euro server and vice versa. Quite a few people who were in my guild were from the UK, actually.
I don't see why they make you buy the same game (AoC) from a different region to play with your friends, though. That's pretty lame. I know back in the day Symm had to buy a copy of WoW and send it to M4cE in the UK so he could game with the other Kings who were playing on US servers. I think Xeonix got his copy off of Amazon or something.

They may also be trying a new approach to solving the RMT (gold selling/spamming) issue (no clue what the in-game currency is in AoC, I stayed away from it because I know too many perma-banned players from other games that are playing it - not exactly a glowing community recommendation).
Like Neoteny says, though, it could just be a way to accommodate the different time zones in the same way that SWG does, but it would seem to me that if they can find a way to monitor and/or prevent the flow of the EU/US client into the hands of the (predominantly Asian) RMTers, they may have a solution that no other game currently has to the problem...which would be a good thing, in my opinion.
